A Prayer for the Colorado Wildfires

My wife and I lived in Estes Park, CO during the summer of 2012. It’s the most memorable summer of my life. During that time, we became friends with some of the dearest people we know. We also spent several years in Denver and one year in Fort Collins, CO. Perhaps it’s needless to say, but we have a huge heart for that part of the state and the people who call it home.

You are likely aware of the wildfires that are devastating that area at the moment. We personally know people who have had to evacuate their homes in Estes Park. Our hearts are aching for them. Rachel and I were praying for the situation this morning and I felt the need to share our concerns with anyone who may join us in prayer.

So without further delay, I want to reach out to the One who is powerful and able to protect lives and stop the spread of these wildfires.

Prayer

God most high,

You are the maker of heaven and earth. You formed the seas and the mountains. You crafted the heart of men and women and placed within them a yearning for beauty. What you have created is amazing. It is beautiful.

We pray for the protection of our loved ones. We humbly yet desperately ask you to stop the spread of these wildfires. Protect people’s homes. Protect people’s communities. Protect the ones on the front lines fighting the spread of these fires. Protect the lives of the elderly and vulnerable. Provide a way for people to find safety.

Lord, we love your creation and take seriously our commission to steward it for your glory. We ask that you would stop the spread of the fire as it heads toward Estes Park and the Rocky Mountain National Park. Preserve for us and our children the breathtaking beauty of your creation so we can share it with those we love.

Comfort the families of those fighting the fires. Bring their loved ones home safely.

We come to you because we know your heart. You are a God who cares for His people.

We come to you because we know your power. You are a God who can move mountains.

We come to you because we know our need. You are a God who answers prayer and comforts the needy.

In the name of Jesus, we pray these fires would cease. Father, please hear and respond to our cry.

As always, we pray your will be done.

In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,

Amen.
