Lord, I am becoming increasingly cynical. I don’t trust people, particularly those in the media who seek to influence the narrative surrounding COVID, politics, racism, gender, and so on. Fear has so permeated our culture that everyone is plagued by it’s persuasiveness. It feels like people are coming unglued.
Even in the church, Lord, we fear viruses more than you. The fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10), seems to have been replaced with a fear of mere opinions. It appears that our faith has grown very weak. It feels like we are headed off a cliff.
Will you come quickly? Will you restore hope in your church?
Forgive my cynicism. Teach me discernment. Help me know how to navigate the complexities of our modern age.
Though the world has changed, you remain the same. Your days have no end. The world and it’s desires pass away but whoever does your will lives forever (1 John 2:17). Teach me to do your will.
Come quickly, Lord Jesus. Come quickly.
Amen.
